Last Saturday, we were supposed to continue our long abandoned morning walk at Bukit Kiara ... but then it rained so heavily ... so all the excuse for breakfast only ... ahahaha ...

So we went to our all time favourite dim sum haunt, Restaurant Jin Xuan Hong Kong at Uptown ... read my previous post on this restaurant here ...

... aahhh-CHEW!!!, Wee Wee and me mother ... Lai Sim is now in Guangzhou, China feasting on more authentic dim sum ... ahahaha ...

Folks you must really try out the dim sum at this Restaurant Jin Xuan Hong Kong ... after eating the dim sum at this place, I just tak boleh tahan the dim sum elsewhere ... whether it's the Jalan Ipoh type or my ex-favourite Restaurant Teochew at Pudu ...

Yes indeed this place really did "dim" my "sum" ... ahahaha ... aahhh-CHEW!!!

The other day aahhh-CHEW!!! finally bought his very first pair of "Crocs" shoes ... after hearing much hype about this shoes ... and after so many of me friends bought theirs ...

... aahhh-CHEW!!! and his brand new brown Crocs ...

But these are the comments I received ...

Pastor's wife says that I paid hundred over ringgit for rubbers ... shoes made in China ... widely available and cheaper from vendors in lorries and in the hypermarkets ... boo-hoo-hoo!!! ... ciss!!! ... crocodile's tears!!! ... ahahaha ...

The news reported that children suffered injuries after their shoes got caught in the escalator ... ok, ok ... me no children, ok??? ... ahahaha ... imagine aahhh-CHEW!!!'s foot got caught in the escalator ... that would be news!!! ... ahahaha ...

And finally ...

Now comes the food ... ahahaha ... you folks must be wondering what happened to aahhh-CHEW!!! and his food ... so here goes ...

Recently our boss gave us a treat after all the hard work at the BookFest@Malaysia in August ...

We went to Restoran LYJ in Sungai Buloh ... and we makan "Poon Choi" or "Big Bowl Feast " or literally "basin food" ...

You folks must be wondering what the heck is "Poon Choi" ... it is actually a traditional type of food originated from Hakka cuisine ... consisting of layers and layers of goodies ... pork, steamed chicken, roasted duck, abalone, fish maw, prawn, mushroom, fishballs, squid and beancurd ... Yummy!!! ...

... ini lah tempatnya ... we drove all the way from Cheras to this restaurant in Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh ... at rush hour somemore ... ahahaha

... this pot cost RM238 ... invented when Mongol troops invaded Song China ... the young Emperor fled to the area around Guangdong Province and Hong Kong and the locals collected all their best food available, cooked it, and put it in wooden washing basins ...

... aahhh-CHEW!!! and Li Ching ... "korek here and korek there" for all the good stuff ... ahahaha ...

... this is the award winning "Loh Mai Kai" by the owner, Chef Paul Lee ...

... this is the expensive version of the "Loh Mai Kai" ... glutinous rice stuffed into the roasted chicken ...

Well, needless to say that we were well stuffed that night ... Li Ching somemore "ta pau" the leftovers of the "Pooi Choi" to makan with porridge at home ... ahahaha ... the only thing left on the table was the chicken's butt ... oooppss!!! ... I mean the bishop's nose ... ahahaha ... aahhh-CHEW!!!

Once upon a time aahhh-CHEW!!! knew how to play the guitar ... what??? ... don't believe ahhh??? ... ahahaha ...

5 or 6 years ago I took some basic lessons from a brother, Kelvin Lai , from the old church ... together with some other folks from the church (Bayen and wife and Mei Ling, I think) ... he took us to a music shop near Atria at Damansara Jaya to buy our own guitar ... and we had one or two hours of lessons every week at his house at TTDI ...

Hey, I was quite ok then you know ... I could play the entire "Shine Jesus Shine" song ... so the syok ...

Now all gone liau ... all given back to the teacher ... ahahaha ...

So the other day, I got out my old guitar and got Kok Wai to tune it for me ... and got my good friend Ian to teach me ...

So now I know some short cut steps for the A, D and E keys ... :-P

Many, many, many months ago, aahhh-CHEW!!! went to Port Dickson for the church's family camp ... at this place called "Golden Sands Baptist Center" ...

I don't particularly like beaches ... I always hated the sun, the heat, the sweat, the stickiness ... nevertheless I enjoyed this trip very much ... perhaps of the company ... the friends there ...

So, looking at the photos again, I have to burst, not into laughter or songs, but into poems ...

She is 24 ... from Miri Sarawak and her latest self-titled album is released by Ian Montone's Monotone Label and Jack Johnson's Brushfire Records ... people who gave us "Sleep Through the Static" ...

The album hit #130 US Billboard Hot 200 Chart and #2 US Billboard Top Heatseekers Chart ... and sold 6,000 copies in the United States in its first 2 weeks of release ...

And her first single "Bitter Heart" spent 3 weeks on Japan's Top 100 Singles chart ... it entered the chart at #82 and peaked at #63, where it stayed for 2 weeks ...

A New Season ...

Hi folks ...

Long time no talk ... WOW!!! ... it's been three months since I penned down anything here ... the longest, me think ...

Actually I thought of closing down this blog ... was and still is very busy ... and also got a bit bored with blogging ... thought nobody reads it anyway ... until kena 'bazooka-ed' by Leo and Tallboyz ... mmpphh ... only two bothered to make a fuzz ... not very encouraging, is it??? ... hahaha ... well, at least it's better than none ...

So, in a nutshell what happened in the last three months ...
aahhh-CHEW!!! was two years old last July 31st ... YEAH!!! ... TWO YEARS OLD!!! ...

Did me 'tour of duty' for me new portfolio for BookFest@Malaysia 2009 in August ... our fourth year ... supposed to sell books but meself bought more than RM1000 worth of English books ...

Lai Sim was posted to Guangzhou, China in September ... so finally the dismise of "The Gila-Gila Gang" ... leaving poor old aahhh-CHEW!!! all by himself in Malaysia ... and the funny thing is she told me that she has no access to me blog ... the internet under censorship by the Chinese Government ... well, not surprised ...

Went to India early this month ... to Bangalore, to be precised ... photos to come, I hope ...

Another attempt to learn to play the guitar ... cakap saja, no practice one ... ahahaha ...

Also pushing meself to learn Photoshop ... because Ian wanted to learn ... so I downloaded for him lor ... ooppsss!!! ... see the new header ... nice, right???

And aahhh-CHEW!!! got fatter ... eat and eat and eat ... even though no photos posted but the eating continues ... ahahaha ... so Aunty Esther would be rolling her eyes and demand me to change the profile photo pronto ...

Me blog header changed once though no post was made ... so goodbye "Summer" and "Who Moved My Cheese" ...

Going through some sort of soul searching ... early mid life crisis ... ahahaha ... thus the new blog header ... "Big Fat Elephant Floating Away" ...

Yes, my dear "guest" ... I'm still in England, "Aunty" or "Uncle" ... why??? ... well, it's because I'm not finished yet ... ahahaha ... I have a few more posts to go ... that's show how productive I was in one day ... hehehehe

When I told Mui Kok Wai that I would be going to London, he told me that the current London Bridge is not the original ... and that the City of London sold that bridge to some bloke in the US ... LOL ... it's was too mind-boggling to comprehend or to accept ... how could one sell off a bridge ... ??? ...

Well, it's true ... on 18 April 1968, the London Bridge was sold to the American entrepreneur Robert P. McCulloch of McCulloch Oil for US$2,460,000 ... the bridge was taken apart, each piece was numbered to aid re-assembly and was reconstructed at Lake Havasu City, Arizona, and re-dedicated on 10 October 1971 ... it now forms the centrepiece of a theme park in English style, complete with a Tudor period shopping mall and has become Arizona's second-biggest tourist attraction, after the Grand Canyon ... now fancy that???!!! ... ahahaha ...

... "London Bridge is falling down, falling down" ... so excited at first as I was climbing up to the bridge from the Southwark ... until I got to the top and saw ...

The London Bridge Experience made the news when during its construction some workers came across a large collection of buried bones ... some of the skulls had holes through the top of their craniums indicating that at some point they may have sat on spikes ... in London's medieval history it is said that the heads of executed criminals and traitors were placed on London bridge as a warning to others ... that's right, stop pinching me chips!!! ... ahahaha ...

... the "original" London Bridge" in Arizona today ... and yup!!! ... it's also just a ... bridge ... so what's so special about it??? ... till someone would buy it for US$2.46 mil for it ... *sigh* ...

Continuing on me trip to London in April this year ...

As I walked towards London Bridge and Tower Bridge ... I came across a ship docked right in the centre of London City!!! ... LOL ... ahahaha ...

... this ship is called "The Golden Hinde" or "Golden Hind" and was captained by Sir Francis Drake ... this is merely the replica ... the original disintegrated and broken up approximately 400 years ago ...

... this ship is "parked" at the St Mary Overie Dock ... by the London Bridge ... look at the activities available!!! ... sleepovers!!! ... and can play "Pirates of the Carribean"!!! ... where's Captain Jack Sparrow ahhhh??? ... ahahaha ... ooppsss ... wrong ship and wrong country ... ahahaha ...

... it was an English galleon best known for sailing around the world and for piracy!!! ... Drake was a British pirate!!! ... ehhh??? ... need an apprentice ahhhh??? ... You're FIRED!!! ... ahahaha ...

... the ship was originally called the "Pelican" but was later renamed by Drake to compliment his patron, Sir Christopher Hatton, whose armorial crest was a golden 'hind', or female deer ...

Kat Mana Itu Pakcik Hailam??? ... Hallo Pakcik Hailam??? ...

One more lunchy post ... ehhh ... what??? ... makan post laaaa ... ahahaha ...

Last week we went to Tesco Cheras for lunch ... at this place called "Pak Hailam Kopitiam" ... owned by Chinese but run by Malay staff ...

Obviously this concept is targeted at the Malay crowds laaaa ... introducing kopitiam goodies Hailam style ... now all races can experience the pleasure of "roti bakar" and "telor setengah masak" ... ahahaha ... and that place was very the crowded at lunch time ... had to stand around looking and waiting for people to finish up ... :-(

... Helen and aahhh-CHEW!!! ... "MENU POSE EVERYONE!!!" ... ahahaha ...

... Li Ching and husband Khai Meng ... one more "menu pose" quick quick ...

... air bandung cincau and soya bean cincau ... I like the bandung very the much indeed ... thank you very much ... ahahaha ...

... assam laksa ... even though it doesn't have the red chilli oil but the taste is at par with the Penang standard ... nice laaaa ... must try ...

... mee hoon tom yam ... sour woh ... pity that Khai Meng ... suffering ...

... fish and chips ... not nice woh ... the fish very the hard woh ... my respond was "why go to "Hailam kopitiam" ordered fish and chips"??? ... well, you asked for it!!! ... sendiri bikin punya ahahaha ...

... kangkung sotong ... I like but of course the Penang people say the taste tak cukup ... this laaa, that laaa .. ini macam tinggal kat Penang cukup laaa ... ahahaha ...

... telor setengah masak on toasted buttered bread ... nice ... but eating it required certain skill as it may get very the messy one ... ;-P

Verdict ... food is good ... prices quite pricey ... but the service was horrendous ... very the slow in everything ... and I mean everything ... slow in taking order ... slow in serving the food ... and the cutlery ... slow in getting more condiments for us ... and getting the bill ... haiz ... how to survive like that??? ...

Anyway, nowadays we not only see many Hong Kong style tea houses mushrooming everywhere but kopitiam also ... Old Town laaa ... Uncle Lim's Kopitiam laaa ... Pak Hailam Kopitiam laaa ... Pappa Rich laaa ... Village Park laaa ...

So what's next??? ... Uncle aahhh-CHEW!!'s Tauhu Busuk Kopitiam??? ... busuk dihidu, sedap dimakan??? ... ahahaha ... aahhh-CHEW!!! ... well, excuse me wackiness ...

Well, we found their branch in Taman Desa, somewhere in Old Klang Road ... and frankly speaking, we like this one more than the one in Cheras ... the portion is bigger, the taste is stronger and in a proper restaurant instead of the old, hot place in the Cheras flat ...

... the Woo PinFish Head Noodles operates in this restaurant in the day time only ... Pulau Ketam Seafood Steamboat in the night time ...

... well, the prices are more expensive here than the Cheras one ... hallo??? ... rental is expensive here mah ... with so many fans switched on the whole day ... no need electricity meh??? ... take note of the business hours, ok ... wait nothing to eat ... ahahaha ...

... aahhh-CHEW!!! and Li Ching ... and our big bowls ... so the satisfied we are ... ahahahaha ...

... starring the "Fish Head Noodles" ... this is my "semua mau" version ... mixual of fish head and fish paste ... the taste is stronger especially the taste of the Chinese wine in the soup ... oooohhhh .... aahhh-CHEW!!! feels dizzy ... as if!!! ... ahahaha ...

... this is the only place where the "big" drinks is cheaper than the "small" ones for kopi, teh and cham ... check out the menu ... ahahaha ...

I heard that there's another restaurant in Cheras called "Restoran Kaki Bola" is also very famous for their fish head noodles ... some where in front of Cheras Leisure Mall ... so where's your favourite restaurant for this dish??? ...

So where else for lunch ... well, Pak aahhh-CHEW!!! is looking for that Pak Hailam ... for hailam fares ... and fair ladies ... ahahaha ... aahhh-CHEW!!! ... well, excuse me ...

Dear Sylvia,

How are you doing in Berlin??? ... and how is marriage life??? ... how's the baby coming around??? ... no??? ... how to have babies when you are running around like that??? ... never at home to answer your mails or go online to chit-chat ...

So how many mahjong dens have you started there??? ... and how many ang moh ah sohs have you cheated so far??? ... haiz ... no news at all from you ... it must be that German language you have been studying ... you must have passed with flying colours ... until you have forgotten the English language ... I mean, no emails, no news ... that must be the reason right ... *wink, wink* ... ;-P

Well, the other day I celebrated Lai Sim's birthday on your behalf ... ordered everything for three persons like in the past ... and of course I ate on your behalf too ... obviously holding some of the weight gained for you until you come back for a visit ... will see how to transfer those fat to you then ... and definitely will be billing you your share of the costs of the meal ... you can pay me back later of course ... with daily compounded interest ... since we are such good friends ... :-D

We went to the same place we gave you the farewell dinner ... "Sura Korean Restaurant" at Desa Sri Hartamas ... remember they gave us many side dishes on the house??? ... well, since they saw us ordering meals for three person, they gave double the number of dishes of the last trip ... well, we sacrifice our waistlines for your sake ... you should be painfully grateful ...

... aahhh-CHEW!!! and all the banchans ...

... Lai Sim with more side dishes ... *sigh* ... how to finish ...

... this is the egg bachan ... nicely decorated ...

... this is the kerang bachan ... hot and spicy ...

... the ikan bilis and peanuts bachan ... they kept on refilling without us asking ... haiz ... how to say no??? ...

... some kind of egg tofu bachan ...

... and of course how could you do without the kimchi??? ...

... this is another egg and meat bachan in claypot ... they gave many other bachans too ... too busy to finish them until no time to take photo ... this is the first time we stopped them from refilling the finished bachans as we feared we couldn't finish them all .. *sigh* ... all for your sake, Sylvia ...

... and this one also ... your favourite pork ribs marinated with Chinese wine ...

... and finally the desserts ... fruits and barley ice ... I had two bowls of that barley ice ... of course on your behalf too ... well, don't worry, they only billed us for the above two barbeque meat dishes ... the rest are FOC ...

... and of course, we went for our customary "yam-char" session at the opposite "Coffee Bean" ... well, since you left, things went from worst to horrible at this place ... remember there wasn't any air-con that night after your farewell dinner??? ... well, the air con is still out ... and they locked the toilet and asked us to relieve ourselves in other restaurants ... at their toilets, I mean ... the things we had to go through for you ...

... Lai Sim and her peppermint tea ... to calm her nerves at such a horrible place ...

... aahhh-CHEW!!! and your Caramel Ice Blended ... I refused to eat and drink anymore for you ... and this ice blended is still in me fridge waiting for you to come back ...

So, Sylvia please come back soon ... your ice blended has melted and started to have white mushroom growing on the surface ... also, if you are coming back this Christmas ... don't forget the Christmas presents and the money of course ... oh, I heard the German Christmas gingerbread is very good and popular ... and of course, the German sausages ... and beer ... I trust you will bring back all ...

Many, many, many moons ago ... we celebrated Chi Meng's birthday at Rakuzen Japanese Restaurant at SS15 ... just opposite SJMC ...

I could still remember that evening vividly ... it was raining very heavily ... I was early ... everyone else was horribly late ... I was at first waited in me car ... and then went into the restaurant as we didn't make any reservation ... luckily too as it was packed later ... and was so embarrassing seated there without any food on the table waiting for the rest ... and all the waitresses kept asking for orders ... *sigh* ... ahahaha ...

Yes, that's exactly what it is ... Portugese style grilled chicken from South Africa ... Nando's ... ahahaha ... bet you didn't know that, right??? ... sori, no prizes for those who knew ... ahahaha ...

My colleagues in London kept on and on praising Nando's and how it is so different from the one in Malaysia ... and said that I must try it before leaving the UK ... *sigh* ...

Ok lor ... so happened that as I was walking and walking along the South Bank, I finally saw one outlet ...

Went in ... the waiter asked if I've been to Nando's before ... I said yes, in Malaysia ... he had a blur look and said not sure if it's the same system in Malaysia but in the UK you have to make your orders at the counter, then you will be shown to your table ... but you have to pick up your own cutleries and condiments yourself along the way ... and the food will be served to you at the table ... *sigh* ... so the mah fun one ...

And the menu is definitely very different from ours ...

Well as I walked along the Southbank towards the bridges, I saw "The Globe Theatre" drawn on the map ... and was stunned for a moment ... isn't that supposed to be in "Stratford-upon-Avon"??? I asked meself ... well, that shows how much I know about good old Will ... that's his birth place ... whereas the Globe is his play theatre in London ...

Using a marvelously good map from the hotel ... I made me way towards the London Bridge and the Tower Bridge along the "South Bank" ... it was a Saturday and everyone was out enjoying the sun and the tourists were everywhere ...

And along the way, it was very exciting indeed ... it seemed to be a festival of some kind going on and lots of activities happening ... mime artistes were everywhere dressed up for tips when people take photos with them ... food and all sorts of things were on sales ... and music and balloons everywhere ... how nice it would be if we have this sort of things in Malaysia to make things exciting and to pull in the overseas crowds, isn't it??? ...

Back to me trip to London in April this year ...

Before continuing me walk on the Southbank, I went to the "London Eye" ... located between Westminster Bridge and Hungerford Bridge ... it was opened to the public in the year 2000 ... yes, that long ago ...

Our "Eye on Malaysia" was opened in 2007 in Titiwangsa Lake Gardens and was later moved to Malacca in 2008 ... the "London Eye" is 135 metres tall whereas ours is merely 60 metres ...

... The "London Eye" ... it is the biggest Ferris wheel in Europe ...

... aahhh-CHEW!!! and the "Eye" ... got a pretty Japanese girl to snap for me ... *wink wink* ... the "London Eye" was officially opened by the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, on 31 December 1999 ... and opened to the public on March 2000 ...

As I mentioned in the last post yesterday that the best steamed chicken in town has to be in "Soo Kee Restaurant", located in one of the shop houses opposite the Seapark market in PJ ...

And Esther, a few shops away is the fruit shop where Doreen bought the famous rojak sauce ... thought you would like to know ... not that it is important ... ehhh ... ok, moving on ... ahahaha ...

Normally after our morning walks at Bukit Kiara in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, we would have our hearty breakfast at our favourite restaurants ... and one of our favourite haunts is "Soo Kee" ... you really must go and try out their chicken and their hor fun ... they are as good, if not better, as the ones in Ipoh ...

... Wee Wee and aahhh-CHEW!!! ... hallo people after walking still looking ok, why Wee Wee looks like she went through some storms ... ahahaha ...

... my mom and Lai Sim ... hallo, why so best friends one??? ... yes, my mom will join us for the walks ... we naik bukit, she keliling the tasik and reads her Bible at the park ...

... Wee Wee and me mom ... the hair, the hair ... next time use some gel, mousse or cement, ok??? ... ahahaha...

... this is the best steamed chicken in town ... covered with oyster sauce mixed with their delicious soup ... you simply must try it out!!! ... just couldn't describe how good it is ...

... how can you have steamed chicken without its partner in crime, the taugeh??? ... ahahaha ...

... the wantons are also the best!!! ... all filled with big fresh prawns ...

... and you must eat all of the above with their Ipoh Hor Fun ... the hor fun is simply silky ... the soup is simply delicious ...

... or you could eat with wanton mee ... but trust me, you must order the hor fun and not the wanton mee ... I regretted ordering it ...

Yes, I know you must be thinking ... all these after the morning walk??? ... ahahaha ... yes, sometimes we too wonder why we "refill" the calories and fat burned from the walks with all these heavy breakfasts ... ehhhh ... no answer ... ahahahaha ... aahhh-CHEW!!! ... well, excuse me ...

One of our colleagues, Tammy, resigned from the company last month ... after working for around 7 months ... mmmppphhh ... ok ...

So some of us gave her a farewell lunch way before her last day as she has "bookings" all the way to her last day ... you see, Tammy, we treat you so well and like part of the "family" ... why you want to cabut and work for your "husband"??? ... we so sad oledi ... hahahaha ... actually jumping for joy laaa ... no laaaa ... we very the kind one ... *evil smile* ...

Anyway, we went for lunch at this place called "De Maw Restaurant" located just next to PGRM building in Cheras ... our colleague Joann recommended it and she says very the nice woh ... but I tell you ah ... this restaurant is really the "maw" ... slow in Cantonnese ... as we have to wait for almost an hour before the food is served ... and we asked them to refill the complimentary "stewed peanuts" three time ... Yoke Siew ordered a bowl of plain rice to eat with these "stewed peanuts" ... yes, she was really that hungry ... ahahaha ...

... this is their famous marmite chicken ... very nice woh ... just order this dish and makan with white rice and you'll leave very satisfied ...

... kampong chicken steamed with garlic ... ok only loh this dish ... do you see the pieces of garlic steamed together with the chicken??? ... well, I preferred me chicken with "kiong yoong", blended ginger and garlic ... but then I still think the chicken from "Soo Kee Restaurant" is the best!!! ... come back tomorrow and see laaa ... ahahaha ...

... this one is also very good, as good as the marmite prawns ... the "goong poh hei goh" ... thumbs up!!! ...

After the heavy dinner ... we moved on for yam char and desserts at "Station 1 Cafe" in Taman Pertama, Cheras ...

... we all tried to self-snap without a wide lens ... very difficult ... and after many attempts and still came out blur-blur one ... because we already quite blur liau at that time ... and we all so the naughty ... we forwarded this photo to Teck Hee, our ex-colleague immediately ... he already slept liau and got woke up ... ahahaha ...

...I ordered this strawberry sundae ... not so nice as the ice cream already melted by the time it came ...

... Li Yoong ordered the "apple lemonade smoothies" ... nice or not ahhh??? ...

... Esther says she want something healthy and sourish woh ... so she ordered the "strawberry apple orange 100% fruit juice" ... mmppphhh ... doesn't look that healthy to me ... ahahaha ...

... the I ordered another drink called "three layered milk tea", supposedly made famous in the East Malaysia ... brown sugar at the bottom, milk in the middle and tea on the top ... well, you could get this in most restaurants nowadays ... so ordered it if you want to know what it tastes like ... well, for me, if you have tasted the strong "lai char" from the Hong Kong cafes, you wouldn't fancy this one ... ahahaha ... ;-p

... nice ambience ... and a perfect place for chit-chatting ...

We chit-chatted till 1am plus ... and moved on to the next station ... balik lumah dan tidor loh ... what else ... still young meh??? ... ahahaha ... aahhh-CHEW!!!... well, *yawn*, excuse me ... zzzzZZZZZ ...
